Apparently, I'm The Adult Now

When I was 25, I thought people who were my age were grown grown. Like very adulty adults. They had it all figured out. I assumed by 37 you just woke up one morning and suddenly understood taxes, investments, relationships, careers, what you wanted to do and how to properly keep a house plant alive (which I have not been super successful at doing)

I thought your 30s were old and well......grown lol

Now, me being 37

Im sitting here like, "what the hell?"

Because I still feel about 28.

And not in a "I refuse to age" way (although people do still think I'm in my 20s).  Trust me, I know I'm 37, I feel it, my back and knees feel it too. lol Not to mention, my responsibilities definitely remind me on a monthly basis.

But internally?

I still feel like a big kid who somehow has a mortgage and "sponserbilities" (you may be too young to catch the reference).

I still get excited for trips. I still want to try random things. I have hobbies that turn into full blown projects. I still call my family when I need something or to vent. I still have moments where I look around and think, waitttt....I'm responsible for all of this? I still look around when I need to find an "adultier adult" to help me.

When I was 25, I looked at people who were 35, 36, 37 and thought they had entered some completely different stage of life. I thought they took life super seriously all the time...and while those are all still the case, it's not that I necessarily feel older...but maybe just more experienced, seasoned, as you will. There's a realization when you wake up and now, you're 37...you realize you still have so much more life to live, yet so much time has already passed.

I don't want to get older to mean becoming less curious, less fun, less playful, less adventurous or less excited about life.

I don't want 37 to mean I've finally become the serious, completely put together adult I imagined at 25 either.

The reality is, I kind of like being the big kid with grown-up responsibilities. We have money to do what we want and also take care of the things we need to.

At the end of the day, we're all just out here trying to remember passwords, make decent financial decisions, keep our plants or children alive and figure out what we really want to do with our lives next.

Some of us just happen to have mortgages now.

And apparently, I'm one of them. lol
